The sacrament of baptism is a joyful rite of initiation into the Christian life. It is customarily performed within the particular congregation where a family lives and participates. As a summer parish without a year-round community we modify this practice by offering the sacrament to families associated with St. Ann’s in some formal way. This includes having been married at St. Ann’s, belonging to a family with a historic connection to the parish, or actively participating in the life of the parish.
Baptisms are usually performed on Sundays following the 10 o’clock service, or on Saturdays and weekdays if there isn’t a scheduling conflict. The Rev. Peter Cheney uses a simple and lovely baptism ceremony that he personalizes for each child and family. The ceremony may be held outside at the Seaside Chapel or inside the Stone Chapel, and lasts approximately 30 minutes. In special circumstances, baptisms are held for active members of St. Ann’s during one of the Sunday morning services.
If you are affiliated with St. Ann’s and would like to have your child baptized, please email Kiki Cheney to learn about the donation requirement and to set a date.
